Our History
Republic Workers’ Union was established on 1st May 2024 and serves as the unified voice for workers, ensuring that their rights, opportunities, and wellbeing are protected and advanced.
For far too long, we observed the deteriorating standards and unethical practices under the leadership of the Banking, Insurance & General Workers Union (BIGWU). It became clear that the interests of RBL workers were no longer being represented effectively. This discontent escalated when BIGWU expelled two of its most respected Central Executive Committee members based on unfounded accusations. These two individuals, known for their integrity and dedication to worker welfare, were treated unjustly, and their expulsion became the final straw for many of us within RBL.
We could no longer stand idly by as BIGWU, under its current leadership, strayed from its foundational principles. On principle, and in solidarity with our ousted comrades, we chose to resign as BIGWU representatives. The formation of RWU is our collective response to these injustices.
We believe in transparency, integrity, and the power of unity. We are dedicated to ensuring that every voice is heard and that every worker’s rights are defended.
RWU is not just a union; it is a movement for justice, fairness, and solidarity. We stand for what is right, and we are committed to solving the problems our members face, today and tomorrow.
